illiniguy.com is back up!

In case you didn’t notice, illiniguy.com is back up and running at its new host, with a bunch of new features…. Now all I gotta do is get my damn domain handler to transfer deelsnyder.com also! 😡

Update your RSS Feed URL

While I’m moving the main site to my new host, please note the RSS feed URL has changed for now. Click on the RSS icon in the upper right and copy the resulting URL to your feedreader…

Note that once you do, that new URL will work even after I move this domain name as well.

sniff…illiniguy.com is moving!!!

Yes, that’s right, it’s that time where I change hosts yet again. I recently changed jobs, getting back into the Java world again, and realized, hey! This is what I’ve been missing! A reason to feel good about what I do, open-source code, cross-platform development, community involvement….and so with that, I’ve decided to move my sites to Java-based (Linux) hosts so I can concentrate on that part of the universe.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not going to abandon .NET. Microsoft may be a different issue, only if they don’t decide to come along. My main thing is I started seeing how much I could get out there in the open-source community, how many people are giving to the community, instead of closing up and selling software for the highest dollar.

But I’ll still be doing .NET, I think it’s a great jump for Microsoft. In fact, I’ll be looking at the Mono project as part of my shifting of OSes. But that’s about as far as I’ll go. If they ever decide to start releasing packages such as Office on other platforms, I’d use them in a heart-beat. They’ve always got the best usability features….

Anyway, enough babbling, just wanted this to be brief. illiniguy.com is currently being moved/updated and in a couple days it will point at my new site. You can still use this link to get to this blog perhaps for a few days after that (or not), I’m waiting for that domain to be repointed as well; in the meantime I repointed that link so you can still come read my old posts here, etc. If you come back and end up on the ‘other side’, that means I’m in the process of updating my content on the new site….and you’ll see some big improvements! New blogging engine (I will be migrating my old posts as well), perhaps a Tiki (or is it Wiki?), new layout, etc. So please keep checking back!

Now that’s a SharpReader!

Just stumbled across a nice little RSS aggregator, SharpReader. Has a rather nice interface for browsing headlines and then going directly to the page. Plus it minimizes itself to your taskbar/tray when closed!

Part of its name also comes from being written in C#; hence you’ll need .NET Framework 1.1.

Word!

Damn word processors…I consider myself a seasoned (if not expert) user of word processors, computer applications, etc. But I myself forgot about this situation:

Seems one of the Word documents SCO sent around has hidden text showing previous modifications to the document. And let’s just say some information shared in this ‘history’ portion of the document wasn’t too flattering.

Damn, better go check my resume out and see if I left that option on! Wonder if that’s every been used against me!

Student-athlete my ass…

Wow, the Univ. of Georgia has released some information related to the serious NCAA violations that occurred under former head coach Jim Harrick. One allegation was that a course that the coach’s son taught on basketball coaching was a little too easy, to help the athletes pass it. Duh! Holy geez, I could only hope I get a test like this sometime soon!
